Overview of our remote learning offer

Communication between home and school:

The whole school community are connected to Class Dojo. Whole school posts are shared on this platform and staff are also sharing key information on the class page. An overview of work is shared on here daily via a PDF (links embedded) or a Sway document.

Our remote education each day includes a mixture of:

  • Live sessions on Microsoft Teams (we offer a minimum of two a day, these would be cancelled in the event of a staff shortage)
  • Pre-recorded videos of teaching
  • Independent work
  • Online resources – forms, apps etc

This will take pupils broadly the following number of hours each day:

Foundation:Average hours a day:
Reception3 hours + Child initiated sessions.
Key Stage 1
Year 13 hours + Child initiated sessions.
Year 23 hours + optional extra sessions
Key Stage 2
Year 34 hours
Year 44 hours
Year 54 hours
Year 64 + hours

The daily timetable is set running from 9am – 3.15pm for all classes and will include:

  • Maths –which will use White Rose Maths and where appropriate Times Table Rockstars
  • Reading – Using the Read, Write Inc scheme (RWI) e books or another appropriate reading online platform.
  • Writing opportunities are set each day and uploaded to teachers for feedback.
  • Spelling/Phonics – using RWI , Spelling Shed or Sir Linkalot
  • Two foundation subject- learning linked to the year group curriculum – this may sometimes use the Oak National Academy if this appropriate.
  • Timetables are adapted to the needs of the class cohort and their age. For example; Reception class live sessions are very active and often require them going for a search around the house for shapes etc. Whereas, Year 6 live sessions work through a structure with more group discussion.
  • Assembly videos are posted to Class Dojo – whole school.

In school we follow the White Rose progression, these continue to be followed remotely.   Staff may record their own videos or offer a live session where they feel the White Rose pre-recorded video is not going to assist learning.   Who will be the next Times Tables Grand Champion? Children have their own TTRockStars login details to practice and rehearse their times-tables at the appropriate level.
READINGhttps://schools.ruthmiskin.com/slogin/
https://home.oxfordowl.co.uk/reading/free-ebooks/
Reading is everything. Read as much as you can at home. We are able to loan a set of books to those families that request.   Children are to read from their own reading book or download and read a free e-book from Read, Write Inc or Oxford Owls. Your child’s class teacher can send you the appropriate level of books.
SPELLINGhttps://www.spellingshed.com/en-gb/
https://www.sirlinkalot.org/
Keep on top of your spellings with the Spelling Shed. Log in and see what your teacher has set for you.   Use Sir Link a lot for those tricky spellings.
PHONICShttps://schools.ruthmiskin.com/slogin/  Phonic activities based on the set your child is in for RWI
FOUNDATION SUBJECTShttps://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/this-terms-topics
https://classroom.thenational.academy/
Your teacher will plan the lessons and may link you to an appropriate website for this.   We also use BBC Bite Size or the Oak Academy. Feel free to do extra. Children can select their year group and subject (science, history or geography) then complete a relevant learning activity linked to their classroom learning.
